God places great emphasis not only upon right living but also upon right giving. He first gave to us that we might give. The Father gave His Son to the world to rescue man from the bondage of sin, and in Christ will “freely give” all things to His children (Romans 8:32). Jesus Christ gave “Himself” (Ephesians 5:2) so that sinners may repent and be forgiven, experiencing fellowship with the Triune God. When a believer becomes part of the body of Christ, God also gives to him His exceeding and great promises. His divine power has given to us “all that pertains to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3-4). When the church experiences His abundant gifts, then that church will exhibit Christlikeness and express the genuine love of God to their community and to the world.
One great Christian grace is giving. Paul urged believers to abound in this “gracious work” (2 Corinthians 8:7). God’s grace in the heart of the believer enables him to give personally, to give earnestly, to give cheerfully and to be willing to give sacrificially. The scriptural way to use God’s abundance is to supply for the spiritual and physical needs of others and also to assist ministries so that needy souls may hear the Word of God. “More than once,” the church at Philippi gave in order that Paul may serve others (Philippians 4:15-20).
There should not be any anxiety or animosity in giving to God. God promises to “make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed” (2 Corinthians 9:8). First, givers must give “themselves to the Lord” (2 Corinthians 8:5) endeavoring to practice God’s will. Then, believers must give “according to their ability” (2 Corinthians 8:3). Finally, one should be consistent in his giving. God’s work never ceases; therefore, giving must never cease whether superabundantly or sacrificially. “And do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased” (Hebrews 13:16).
Slavic Missionary Service praises God for each individual and church that supports our ministries and outreaches, especially during these complicated, confusing and even chaotic times. This partnership enables SMS to work with national missionaries on the Slavic fields who need assistance to accomplish spiritual permanence and progress. It is only with these donations that SMS can plan for future projects or continue to maintain and grow present ministries on the foreign fields. It also provides for the day-by-day accomplishments of the SMS home base and for the continued additions to our media ministries.
