Pray that God will fill the Slavic believers with a hunger for His Word: "Desire the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2), and a spirit of prayer: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Ask God to call many young men and women to serve Him sacrificially and sincerely in places of leadership. Pray that some will choose to serve in other Slavic countries as missionaries. Intercede for the Christian leadership in Eastern Europe that they will withstand the powers of darkness and remain stable in their spiritual roles. |
A heart that is governed and guided by the love of Jesus Christ is concerned for the welfare of others. Because the love of God has been shed in the believer’s heart, a Christian seeks to serve others with compassion. “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion” (Colossians 3:12). Compassion sees, feels and acts.
It is altogether satisfying and spiritually stimulating to be in the place of God’s appointment in order to be available to accommodate and assist others when opportunities arise. “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36).
The devastating and destructive conflict between Russia and Ukraine has thrust many of the missionaries of Slavic Missionary Service into unique and unusual opportunities to share the Good News of the vicarious death and victorious resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. In Belarus, Moldova and Poland, as well as Ukraine, “open doors” have been given to provide humanitarian and spiritual aid to refugees who continue to flee the ravages of war.
SMS is so grateful for generous contributions that have been given since the beginning of the battle in order to help the missionaries provide relief and reach many nonbelievers with the Gospel. Many people have turned to the Lord during this tumultuous time. As donations continue to be designated for Ukraine, SMS will continue to extend this vital outreach.
Pray that the missionaries of SMS will not grow weary in providing beneficial and benevolent blessing to others, especially those Ukrainian refugees that are crossing their paths. Intercede on behalf of those suffering in discouragement and despair that God would provide calmness, comfort and courage. And pray that contributions will be available for the SMS workers to continue to provide compassion during this calamitous and chaotic time.
