Pray that God will fill the Slavic believers with a hunger for His Word: "Desire the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2), and a spirit of prayer: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Ask God to call many young men and women to serve Him sacrificially and sincerely in places of leadership. Pray that some will choose to serve in other Slavic countries as missionaries. Intercede for the Christian leadership in Eastern Europe that they will withstand the powers of darkness and remain stable in their spiritual roles. |
As the war is prolonged between Russia and Ukraine, struggles continue with the people who have chosen not to travel to another country but to stay in Western Ukraine. Some businesses are curtailing their workload, and some companies have closed. Government assistance has been interrupted. The flow of commerce has decreased, and some products are difficult to find or obtain. Therefore, the work with the poor and needy is extremely vital during this time.
Valentin Romaniuk, a worker of Slavic Missionary Service who has been instrumental in directing deliveries of humanitarian aid to the most urgent areas during the war, has started again providing groceries to needy families and the elderly in Lviv, Ukraine. This ministry was curtailed for a two months when the war began. Now, Valentin is able to resume this indispensable service to those people who have not fled the country.
Sixty to seventy individuals or families are assisted with essential items that can last for at least two to three weeks. Twice a month, Valentin is able to provide aid to those people, who for a number of reasons, cannot be helped by the government. Slavic Missionary Service counts it a privilege to be able to help this integral ministry in the second largest city of Ukraine.
The Bible exhorts the believer to help the poor not only with physical sustenance but also with spiritual nourishment. “But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?” (1 John 3:17). SMS is grateful for the volunteer team in Lviv that brings the message of hope and salvation to the needy, as well as provide provisional packages.
Pray that these individuals will realize their need for salvation and repent of their sin. Relying on the goodness, grace and guidance of God is the best way to live in this world, no matter the changes, circumstances or consequences.
