Pray that God will fill the Slavic believers with a hunger for His Word: "Desire the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2), and a spirit of prayer: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Ask God to call many young men and women to serve Him sacrificially and sincerely in places of leadership. Pray that some will choose to serve in other Slavic countries as missionaries. Intercede for the Christian leadership in Eastern Europe that they will withstand the powers of darkness and remain stable in their spiritual roles. |
Violence and bloodshed are spreading across many places on God’s earth, especially now in Ukraine. But believers understand that God is still in control whether people experience tragedy or triumph. Catastrophe or conflict does not cause missionary endeavors to cease; on the contrary, difficult and dangerous times demand more from God’s dedicated disciples. Spiritual leaders and missionaries in Ukraine understand that now is the time to show “the fruit of the Spirit” and to share salvation to those people who are trapped in a depressing, dire situation.
Although some pastors and spiritual leaders have abandoned their sheep and some churches have greatly diminished in size, evangelization and encouragement are still being offered to many by those courageous and confident Christians who have remained in Ukraine while the conflicting battle continues. Slavic Missionary Service has received numerous reports of people reaching out to God, repenting of their sins and rejoicing that their souls have found peace with God.
One older lady that fled to Poland as a refugee at the start of the war was assisted by two missionary brothers. They shared with her not only humanitarian aid but also spiritual aid. Mentioning severe pain in her side, the missionaries escorted her to a doctor. She was diagnosed with cancer.
Through the difficult and despairing time of treatment as well as an operation, the lady repented of her sins and found Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. For a few months, she basked in the fellowship of believers who showered her with comfort, compassion and Christian love.
Then, the doctor informed her that the cancer had returned. She only had a few months to live. Before she died, she posted on social media that she had never experienced such joy in her life like the joy experienced these last few months found only in Jesus Christ. Praise God that His servants reached this woman with the Gospel in “the nick of time.”
Pray for the SMS national workers who remain in Western Ukraine that they will not grow weary in doing good during this stressful and sorrowful time of travesty and tumult. Intercede on behalf of all spiritual leadership who have remained in their regions that protection will be provided, as well as provisions to continue the ministry among the Ukrainian refugees that are waiting for the war to cease in order to return to their homes.
