To each born-again believer, the Lord Jesus gives a place in the church. “But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired” (1 Corinthians 12:18). The Lord’s plan for the believer’s life is part of His whole plan for the church. The Christian’s responsibility is to walk earnestly and effectively in God’s plan. “So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another” (Romans 12:5). Because believers are members one of another, their conduct must conform to God’s Word in the outworking of that relationship.
The church of the Lord Jesus Christ cannot experience “growth” without the life of God flowing through the “joints and ligaments” (Colossians 2:19) of each member through the power of the Holy Spirit. God desires that the whole body grow to the “stature which belongs to the fulness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:13). In the matter of Christian service, God appoints the work to which each believer must serve. God promises rewards of highest honor, but He bestows those rewards upon only those faithful children who have obeyed and feared Him.
For growth and fruitfulness of life, the Lord has made practical provision for His children. He has given His Word to read, understand, obey and apply. “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Without the Bible, the child of God becomes impotent and ignorant concerning what pleases and glorifies the Heavenly Father.
Direct contact of the believer’s spirit with God Almighty for thanksgiving, supplication and intercession happens through true prayer. The Christian is to pray “always” (Ephesians 6:18), “in everything” (Philippians 4:6) and “without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Prayer acknowledges full reliance upon the faithful God who will accomplished all that He has promised.
In order that believers may be strengthened for their walk and service, God has arranged leadership for the church. “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-12). God has also given each member of the body of Christ a gift which is designed to edify fellow believers. As members one of another, believers are to recognize their need for loving and loyal fellowship. “So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another” (Romans 12:5).
Only the Holy Spirit can help the believer to obey the Word of God, pray effectually and love those members included in the body of Christ. Reliance must be placed upon the indwelling Spirit of God who can put to death the deeds of the carnal nature. Submission to the will of God allows the Holy Spirit to work in power.
Intercede on behalf of the workers of Slavic Missionary Service that they will walk in a worthy manner before God and before others by applying the principles of the Bible to their daily life. Pray that they will ask God to assist them in all endeavors and allow the Holy Spirit to transform them into the likeness of Christ.
