Pray daily for pastors in the Slavic countries (as well as your own) that they will have wisdom and power from God to preach the Word effectually and to care for all of the saints. Pray that the convicting power of the Holy Spirit will accompany the preaching of God’s Word throughout all lands. Ask God to stir up Christians to use their God-given freedom to the fullest advantage in making known everywhere the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “Freely ye have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8). |
Slavik Stashchak, SMS missionary, pastor and trustworthy servant, oversees the youth ministry in the Lvov Oblast of Ukraine. Monthly gatherings are conducted to challenge the young people to be confident in their faith toward the Lord Jesus Christ. Recently, a “Quest” event was held in the Resurrection Church in Truskavets. Approximately seventy young men and ladies were separated into six groups to venture into the city to accomplish specific tasks, including singing a Christian song and sharing something about their Christian faith.
The young people returned, and the leader from each team shared the results of their quest. Each group had interesting comments to share concerning how the Lord helped them to express their faith to people on the streets. The interim director of Slavic Missionary Service was given the opportunity to conclude the meeting with a message about “crowns” that will be received for Christian service.
The meeting truly helped the youth to exercise their faith when challenged to be an example to others. Each group worked together to accomplish the tasks and to show their Christian faith to the community. Not everyone on the street was interested in participating with the young people, but many were intrigued that these young men and women knew what they believed and were willing to share those beliefs with them.
Pray that God will continue to work through SMS leaders, and intercede for the next generation of believers that God will call many to serve Him in leadership roles. Pray that young leaders will not grow discouraged in the Lord’s work but rely on the Holy Spirit to teach and train them. “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).
