Jim and Ann Leonovich, SMS state-side missionaries, acknowledge that this year was very emotional since the passing of Nick (Jim's father) and Alex (Jim's uncle). Both were of tremendous help to them in all facets of ministry. Both passed into "glory" two months apart, and now both are rejoicing with the Lord whom they had served all of their lives. Interestingly, God would use these emotional experiences in the future ministry of Jim and Ann in Belarus.

Leon Chechowich, SMS International Field Coordinator, encouraged the Leonoviches to participate as teachers in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program in Gomel, Belarus. The challenge was accepted. Ministry always led to Ukraine, but now this unique opportunity would lead them to Belarus. Jim's father and uncle were born in Belarus; therefore, Jim would also allot time to visit relatives near Kobrin.
Teaching conversational English is an avenue of opportunity for reaching many different types of people. Jim and Ann were able to include in their lesson plans personal stories concerning their visits to Ukraine. Jim was also able to share "The Tale of Two Brothers." His father and uncle spent the majority of their lives ministering to their native people, and Jim was delighted to inform his students about their ministries to the Slavic people.
Almost five hundred students attended the courses offered for nine days. Both Jim and Ann taught three classes. This program is ideal for anyone who wants to participate in a short-term project and learn more about the country of Belarus.
