In order to remain physically healthy and constructively active, the body of an individual requires regular daily replenishment with food. So, it is with the believer’s spirit. A practical partaking of the Word of God daily will help the believer stay radically healthy in the Christian life. “And for this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received from us the Word of God’s message, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
The believer studies the Bible not only to learn how to live as a Christian but also how to love Christ better. “We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19). The believer is born again “through the living and abiding Word of God” (1 Peter 1:23). The Word of God is “life” to the believer (John 6:63), and the believer “grows” in his relationship with Christ by the Word of God (1 Peter 2:2).
The Word of God, as “the sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17), will also protect the believer against the attacks of the adversary. If Christ Jesus utilized the Word of God when “tempted by the devil” (Matthew 4:1-11), then how much more should Christians follow His example when bombarded with “the schemes of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11).
Slavic Missionary Service praises God for missionaries who are preaching and teaching God’s Word in worship services and in evangelical outreach. “O taste and see that the LORD is good; how blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him” (Psalm 34:8). SMS also is pleased with missionaries who are leading Bible studies right in their own homes and have encouraged other leaders likewise to participate in small group ministries.
Studying the Holy Scripture helps the Christian to be complete and “equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:17). How important it is for every believer to be “approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). Pray that the SMS missionaries will consistently and correctly “give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching” (1 Timothy 4:13).
