Pray that God will fill the Slavic believers with a hunger for His Word: "Desire the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2), and a spirit of prayer: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Ask God to call many young men and women to serve Him sacrificially and sincerely in places of leadership. Pray that some will choose to serve in other Slavic countries as missionaries. Intercede for the Christian leadership in Eastern Europe that they will withstand the powers of darkness and remain stable in their spiritual roles. |
My Life's Harvest time
"But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and my ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God" (Acts 20:24).
This verse has been a personal exhortation for me, because I want to finish my race of life well. The apostle Paul sees difficulties ahead at every turn, but he is not moved at all; rather, he is focused on finishing his ministry well. Like him, I want to serve "the Lord with all humility… and with many tears" (Acts 20:19) persevering in the "harvest field" with gladness until the very end of my life.
I now find myself beginning the final lap of life. Each phase of my life has had its joys and difficulties. The years of ministry with my husband were wonderful in so many ways. And this last phase, too, is revealing its own unique joys just for me. Recently, I have chosen to work in ministry with Valentina, a Russian Jewish believer, who is a retired medical doctor. She loves the Lord Jesus Christ, and the Lord has used her greatly in the past to teach women about the Bible.
I am very pleased to accompany her, as she conducts Bible studies in three different homes in Brooklyn, New York, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The homeowners at each place invite their friends to participate in the studies. Our primary purpose is to help each woman find a personal relationship with the Savior Jesus Christ through the study of the New Testament and learn how specifically to follow Him. The women have many questions, some of which I have had the privilege to answer.
I cannot express how much I enjoy assisting these studies. A lifetime of preparation is now being put to direct use. With peace and contentment, I know that I am at the right place, at the right time, with the right people. Please pray that the Lord will reveal Himself to everyone who attends the studies, and that He will lead those who believe in Him as Savior to the right church communities for further growth.
Thank you for reading my letter and for praying for the Slavic Jewish people. In some ways, I find myself in the position of Naomi, a Bible character in the book of Ruth. After becoming a widow, she harvested much from life in her final years. Praise the Lord that I can also work in the "harvest field" in the final years of life!
In Christ,
Anna Deikun
