While walking pass some small garage buildings in front of the property of the church, the volunteer staff of Safe Harbor Ministry noticed many homeless adults congregating in order to keep warm. Oksana Leonova (SMS missionary) realized that her team must begin to minister to these needy people. Their focus has always been on children, but now that focus must expand to adults. Therefore, in November of 2011, the team started preparing meals to feed this homeless group of people. While distributing the food, the staff also shared the good news of salvation through the Word of God and Christian songs.
Soon, Elena, Alex and Zhanna repented of their sins and trusted Jesus as their personal Savior. They all attended a rehabilitation center to help them overcome their substance abuse and now are attending church services weekly. In July of 2012, Lena was baptized with two other candidates.
A problem has arisen concerning the future of these new believers. They still have no place to live. Temporarily, the Safe Harbor Ministry is utilizing their camping site to assist these homeless believers. But the building needs major renovations, especially the kitchen. Please consider how you can help this new ministry in the city of Bryansk, Russia through Slavic Missionary Service.
