A terrific team of Christian workers in the city of Oryol, Russia travels during the year to seven different orphanages in the Oryol Oblast to minister to needy children in various ways. The region of Oryol, which has a population of 911,000 people, is approximately five hours southeast of Moscow.
When Rob Zapotoski (International Field Representative) visited the Oryol region to view the progress of the churches where SMS missionaries are ministering, an opportunity arose to travel to an orphanage in the small town of Zmeyovka with a team of nine volunteers. Upon arriving, all of the children ran to greet each one within the group with smiles and hugs.
A Christian drama was presented with puppets to the children, and new Christian songs were taught and sung. Ladies from the Transfiguration Church in Oryol crocheted sweaters, scarves, hats and mittens to give as gifts to each of the children. Then, the group shared some little notebooks, crayons and caramel popcorn. The happiness expressed on each young face was a clear indication that the team's service truly was not in vain. The love of God was shown in words and in deeds.
The workers of the orphanage are very appreciative for this wonderful ministry, and they always invite the team to return again in the future. Praise God for opportunities to share the love of Christ to little children who desperately yearn for acceptance and affection.
