Pray that God will fill the Slavic believers with a hunger for His Word: "Desire the sincere milk of the Word" (1 Peter 2:2), and a spirit of prayer: "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Ask God to call many young men and women to serve Him sacrificially and sincerely in places of leadership. Pray that some will choose to serve in other Slavic countries as missionaries. Intercede for the Christian leadership in Eastern Europe that they will withstand the powers of darkness and remain stable in their spiritual roles. |
Genealogies would also confirm the credibility of the coming Messiah. In the Gospel of Matthew, as well as the Gospel of Luke, one reads the genealogy of Jesus the Christ.
At first, the list seems to be just a conglomeration of names, but further study indicates a deeper significance. Within the genealogy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we see humanity in its entire fervor and frailty. God's holy Son knew for whom He must descend from heaven to rescue from the depths of depravity. They were part of His own family tree.
Within the genealogies recorded, interesting personages emerge. First of all, some of the names include mankind as the "crown" of (Israeli) civilization. Without such characters as Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David and Hezekiah, the nation of Israel would not have played such an important role among the other nations.
Secondly, some of the names include mankind in the "crowd" of the common. No great feats are recorded by such men as Esrom, Salmon, Obed or Salathiel, yet their lives are important links in the genealogical chain of Messiah.
Finally, some of the names include mankind in the "curse" of condemnation. Interestingly, even women's names are mentioned in the genealogy to indicate that no one can escape the all-searching eye of the Almighty. Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and the wife of Uriah (Bathsheba), as well as Rehoboam, Uzziah, Ahaz and Manasseh, reveal the need for the coming Messiah to appear.
Everyone whether great or small, good or evil, Gentile or Jew, must believe and receive the redeeming work of the Anointed One. And they are all represented within the genealogy of God's Son! Will you accept God's indescribable gift?
