Whether or not one experiences happiness and joy during the Christmas season depends upon the answer one gives to the question posed by the Wise Men: "Where is He that is born Kings of the Jews?" (Matthew 2:2).
First of all, the Wise Men sought a Person. "Where is He?" Some people today are seeking a set of principles or a philosophy as their provider of peace. Yet, it is only in the presence of Jesus Christ that we find peace and protection. "He is our peace" (Ephesians 2:14). "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).
Secondly, the Wise Men sought the Promised One. "Where is He that is born?" Nothing could deter them from discovering that destination. They overcame every obstacle to prostrate before the prophesized King. The Scriptures clearly specify that "at the name of Jesus every knee should bow" (Philippians 2:10).
Finally, the Wise Men sought a Potentate. "Where is (the) King of the Jews?" They recognized the sovereignty of Jesus. They desired to worship one who was greater, one who was wiser and one who was more powerful than they themselves. "They saw the child with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him." (Matthew 2:11).
