Rehabilitation ministry with people suffering from addiction to alcohol and drugs is difficult work. Alexander Kudrin (SMS missionary in Zhugalevsk, Russia) has reported that the evangelistic campaign, "Zhugalevsk against Drugs" has been a tremendous success. At first, permission to hold such a campaign in the city became very difficult, for the entire administration of the city had been replaced. But, permission was granted after new relationships were built with the local authorities.
Young people from the church and guests from neighboring communities worked together to share the good news that freedom from drugs and alcohol is possible through a genuine faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Placards were posted in various areas and invitations were also given to many for an evening concert of Christian music and testimonies of former addicts. Special thanks are extended to all who donated funds in order to purchase the proper sound equipment for this important event. Many attended and many were moved by heartfelt testimonies of God's forgiveness from sinful lives.
A hotline was established for anyone desiring assistance from the bondage of addiction, and many calls have already been received! Pray that God will help the Christian leaders to have the right resources to minister to these callers who desire deliverance from alcohol and drugs.
In 2009 a property was purchased in a small town near Zhugalevsk in order to work with those fully interested in recovery. Reconstruction on this new rehabilitation center was completed one year later by the men who would benefit from its resources. Eleven men entered the facility for rehabilitation, but living in the building was very difficult in the winter. There were no funds available to insulate the walls. Last winter, the walls finally were insulated, and the works continues to attract many who are searching for answers.
The men learn how to provide for themselves through farming. They plants gardens to provide food for the table. They also raise pigs and chicken. They even have learned how to produce their own honey. The individuals finding freedom are a happy group of men. Their families are rejoicing that their loved ones are finding their way out of a miserable state of servitude and slavery to alcohol and drugs.
There is enormous satisfaction for those workers who are involved in this ministry when the process of deliverance has been accomplished. Praise God for this marvelous opportunity to reach those people who are trapped in bondage and in sin! Alexander and the entire church are praising God, as they see men and women become genuine believers in Christ and productive members in the church and community. Continue to share in support and pray for this important ministry in Russia.
