Each generation must prepare the next generation to function properly and productively in all facets of life. This principle must also be practiced in the realm of Christianity. "Sound" or "Solid" spiritual institutions are necessary to educate, exhort and equip young men and women to fulfill the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Beside the church community, Bible colleges, seminaries and Bible institutes all assist in this great endeavor.
In Lvov and Borislav, Ukraine the Ukrainian Baptist Theological Seminary was founded in 2000 to prepare the next generation for Christian ministry. Ivan Romaniuk, the president, has been instrumental in organizing and overseeing the programs within each establishment. He has been partnering with Slavic Missionary Service in various ministries for 15 years.
Since the establishment of UBTS, many students have graduated, receiving Bachelors' degrees and Masters' degrees to prepare them for spiritual service. Many of the graduates already are actively serving in churches and Christian ministries. Rob Zapotoski, International Field Coordinator of SMS, has been privileged to teach almost every group of students that has graduated from the seminary.
Praise God that SMS is involved in training and preparing the next generation in Western Ukraine to honor and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ through their gifts and talents. How important it is to be prepared for ministry! Pray that God will continue to send forth young men and women as laborers "into His harvest" (Matthew 9:38) within Ukraine, as well as within the rest of Eastern Europe.
