“And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away” (Isaiah 35:10).
The lifetime of preparation to be ready to fly away to “Glory” is now complete for Alex Deikun. He was called to be with the Lord on March 30 here at our home. He welcomed his “home going” and trusted fully that the Lord will take care of his family. We are grieved, but do not weep as those who have no hope to be reunited later.
My journey with Alex as his wife lasted almost 30 years. There were hardly ever any days that Alex would not feel pain as he walked. He would never share his discomfort, only if I asked. Alex lived the Christian life without complaining. The suffering never stopped him from sharing Christ’s love to everyone. He had hope, and he gave that hope to others. His aim was to serve and walk as an example to all the brethren. It was total commitment — all for Christ no matter what. As I sojourned all these years with him, our whole life has been preparation for this inevitable moment. We knew it. But it did not make his departing for me any easier.
I thank God that he was also like a “brother” to me. He was a strong brother for many people. Almost to the very end of his journey, Alex took calls from friends from Brooklyn, New York, as well as other places. He was always delighted to pray or to give counsel.
“Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, ‘Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’ ‘Yes,’ says the Spirit, ‘that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them’ ” (Revelation 14:13). This is Alex’s first day of rest. He is finally at home. My husband’s room was filled with brightness just like on the morning of Christ’s Resurrection. Now, it is strangely dim and empty. It was because Alex “let his light shine.” He loved to give thanks to the Lord Jesus. Thank you, dear friends, for your prayers for me and our children during this time.
Yours in Christ,
Anna Deikun
