The city of Borisov, Belarus has a population of 180,000 people. It's about an hour's drive north of Minsk, the capital of Belarus. There are only two evangelical churches to minister to this community. One of those evangelical churches is the Borisov Bible Church. SMS missionary, Sergey Zhukovski is the pastor of this church which has 180 members. (Sergey and Tanya have two children, Nastia and Paul.)
Sergey and the leadership of the church are involved in various projects. One of the outreaches provides fruit for three orphanages in Borisov. The first orphanage is a "shelter" where children are registered and then sent to the age-appropriate residence. The second orphanage specifically handles babies from birth to three-years old. The third orphanage is a facility which manages disabled children. A team from the church also conducts an informal service at the shelter every Saturday with singing, crafts and a Bible lesson.
Another outreach involves the youth in Belarus. Sergey and other pastors have joined together to promote two conferences each year focusing on the importance of God's Word. These conferences are held in the Borisov Bible Church because the auditorium can accommodate 200 to 250 attendees comfortably. (Auditoriums cannot be rented in Belarus for religious purposes at this time.)
Other outreaches include the Sunday school ministry, which ministers to 100 children and the summer camping program, which focuses on reaching children and young people who do not know anything about God or His Word. Hosted by the church, 100 children and young people enjoy the activities of a summer day camp for one week.
The heating system within the church was renovated a year ago, but the heat was dissipating through the walls and ceiling. Therefore, the church needed to be insulated. Materials were purchased and qualified men from the church worked diligently to finish the church before winter arrived. (Sergey is a contractor by profession.) $6,000 was borrowed to complete the work.
