The interim director of Slavic Missionary Service and Peter Korotash, SMS missionary and pastor of Grace Church in Bendery, Moldova, had the joy of providing food to the needy in his church and in the community this past summer. Nine families were presented with a huge bag of groceries, including basic foods for sustenance and a few extra treats. Each family was grateful to the Lord and to the church for presenting them with something that spoke to them “louder” than words.

Every year when the interim director of Slavic Missionary Service travels to Slavic countries, opportunities arise to educate the next generation (as well as older leaders) concerning Biblical doctrines and principles. Teaching engagements are scheduled in colleges and seminaries with new students and students ready to graduate. These appointments become the highlight of a journey that sometimes can be hectic and hurried.

Oksana Leonova, SMS missionary and director of the Transfiguration Center, remembers vividly God’s call to reach the poor, needy and underprivileged children from dysfunctional families in Bryansk, Russia nineteen years ago. As she sat in the choir loft and listened to her father preach a sermon, her eyes noticed some disheveled children in the balcony. She knew that they were not “church” children. Why were they sitting up there? Who had invited them? Clearly, without hesitation, she knew that she had to speak to them directly after the service.
